Community Supported Agriculture

Boy with red apple

It's about fresh, delicious and healthy vegetables grown near you. Over the past 20 years, tens of thousands of families across the country have signed up for a community supported agriculture (CSA) program. The desire for fresh wholesome food, a sense of community, and respect for the earth has created a movement toward reliance on locally produced food.

Bittersweet Farms uses two state-of-the-art hoop houses, so we have a much longer harvest season than most CSA programs. Hoop houses are large enclosed gardens similar to greenhouses but use only passive solar heat. They can extend the local growing season by three months.

Assorted vegetables Each April through November, Bittersweet Farms will offer shares of its spring, summer, and fall harvest to community members on a first come, first serve basis. Each share consists of a variety of seasonal vegetables through the summer. For example, shareholders will get a number of vegetables familiar to them such as tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, corn, onions, radishes, peppers, lettuce as well as some less familiar varieties like turnips, greens, okra, eggplant, etc. Each week we will distribute an equal share of what we harvest. Content of each share varies weekly. A standard share is typically enough for 2-3 people though consumptions vary. You will be asked to sign a contract.
